Structural - Critical Supervision on Segmental Bridge Construction
Credential - 6 STU (Points)
Funding - UTAP
Time : 08:30AM to 03:45PM
Why Choose this Training Course?
The basic construction safety training program equips delegates with an understanding of several key
aspects of working on site, including risk assessments, manual handling, intervention and code of
practice. The course is designed for those with supervisory responsibilities and ensures that they meet
these so as to ensure a safe site for all staff to work on, whilst meeting relevant legal guidance and to
inculcate Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) mindsets in each individual through lectures, case
studies and interactive sharing. The module will raise their awareness of the common hazards present
within a construction worksite and introduce to them measures to mitigate the related risks, enabling
them to better protect themselves as well as others while at work. Their appreciation of the risks
within a construction worksite will also be enhanced through the use of case studies.
This module will equip the persons with the necessary WSH knowledge relating to their employment,
which includes:
1. The WSH Act in the Construction Industry
2. Common Hazards in a Construction Worksite and their Corresponding Risk Controls
3. Lessons Learnt from Past Incidents
4. Ways to Influence and Contribute to Raising the WSH Standard

About the Course
The precast concrete segmental bridge construction has grown popularity worldwide in the last few
decades due to its benefits in terms of reduced costs, reduced construction time, reduced
environmental impacts, and reduced maintenance of traffic. This method of construction also offers
better means of quality control, minimum requirements for future maintenance apart from the
additional structural advantages of durability, fire resistance, deflection control, better rider
serviceability, insensitivity to fatigue, and other redundancies. These bridges can accommodate
highways, railways, and rapid transit, in both urban and rural environments. They can be straight or
curved alignments, and can provide long spans for difficult obstructions and terrain.
This course covers various bridge types, their critical components and construction methods, apart
from the choice of foundation types, pier types and special attention on precast bridge segment
production at the precast yard, handling, installation at the construction site. Bridge construction
methods and case studies on balanced cantilever, precast span-by-span erection, full span precast
erection and cast in-situ methods of construction are covered through real-life case studies of local
and international projects. Lastly post tensioning and prestressing methods relevant to segmental
bridge construction methods are also covered.
